The overall planning and architectural design of the Haikou Lin Yang Xiao Ju project is one that emphasizes quality in both underground and above-ground spaces. Drawing inspiration from the artist Cecil Touchon, the design arranges the project’s main functions across the site in textual form according to their respective volumes. These textual compositions are then deconstructed into a 10×10 m grid, abstracted into spatial geometries, and reassembled through collage to explore possible programmatic combinations.
Through this approach, each space acquires a non-typical and unconventional character with a distinct visual identity, forming a continuous landscape that provides a seamless and open spatial experience. At the same time, this method generates a layered interplay of solid and void—akin to the texture of a Nolli map—between architecture and the in-between gray spaces.
