The project is located within a former soy sauce workshop of the vacated Dingfeng Sauce Factory. The 1,000 m² space contains 48 fermentation pits, each 2.4 meters deep, offering a direct spatial manifestation of the soy sauce production process. Here, form follows function—the distinct production sequences create spatial richness and diversity, while also allowing time itself to become an element of experiential design.

Inspired by the classical gardens of Jiangnan, the design introduces a new “temporal path” into this abandoned industrial setting. Within this reimagined production space, visitors experience changing scenes as they move, and are invited to quiet contemplation under the lingering aroma of fermentation. The weight of the industrial past is gently dissolved and dispersed through the lightness of newly embedded pavilions, corridors, and terraces.

This project is an adaptive transformation—an act of turning decay into atmosphere, where the old industrial fabric is reborn as an evocative spatial experience.
