Project Location: Dameisha Village, Shenzhen Building Area: 260sqm
Design Period: 2017.08-2017.12 Status: Built Category: Cultural & Educational
House 9, formerly a 250㎡ two-floor slope-roofed house, features frame structure on F1 and brick-concrete structure on F2. Internally it is divided into several smaller houses for rent.
For House 9, our design strategy is to retain the existing load-bearing structures and demolish some non-load-bearing walls. By doing so, the previously enclosed spaces are interconnected and the spaces of the entire building become lively and free-flowing. Besides, several exhibition spaces are naturally created. In terms of facade design, the existing window openings on F1 are expanded into door openings, so each exhibition space is provided with an independent access to the street. Protruding steel window frames are added to F2, offering another visual focus on the otherwise plain and ordinary facade. Before renovation, House 9 was only accessible via a small staircase at the back. For this reason, a staircase of steel structure is added at the back, creating a village public space together with the Glowing Stone Square.
