The museum of fine arts is designed based on these concepts: public space and cultural vessel. We would also classify those people relating to Cultural Center as the flowing three types: Users: people purposefully use the specific functions of Cultural Center.Roamers: individual visitors who have no special purpose yet show interest in visiting the inside of Cultural Center. Passers: People who show no interest in entering Cultural Center and only pass by the site where Culture Center lies.
Public space-- The design uses the existing road elevation to build an elevated level on ground floor to provide free walking through experience and create an open urban public space, which allows urban public life happens. The interior and exterior service features of functional zoning of the architecture is full considered in the design of a public space belt, which connects the whole building block and all the public spaces including exhibition halls and gallery.
Cultural vessel-- A museum of fine arts are not limited to functions of collection, exhibition and research, but also has cultural, education and social functions. The target audience of art museum is not only cultural and artistic people but all the citizens. Therefore, besides traditional functions of art museums, we also designed the interactive space for experience. The large-span structure system and space of vertical variation provide flexible space for exhibition in the museum.
We have designed three different routes for these three types of people respectively: Users--fast access to the designated functional zone; Roamers--open public spaces which allow travel through the whole Cultural Center yet cause no disturbance to its specific use functions; Passers--open elevated floor which serves as a direct shortcut across the site.
